to backup ProgramData folder, open a command prompt AS ADMINISTRATOR, cd to C:\ProgramData and type "robocopy CrashPlan CrashPlan.bak /mir" step 1: to check version, go to C:\ProgramData\CrashPlan\log (paste path in explorer otherwise it won't show) and open service_output.log, it should have a line that says CPVERSION = 4.8.xxx - (some crap)- Build: yyy Today is not even possible to log in CrashPlan Home accountsīesides the fact that I had to dig for a 32-bit version of 4.8.0, it worked perfectly! Thanks a lot.Ī few thoughts and a bit of detail that may be useful to some: Just stop service, restore ProgramData and run serviceĪnd block client in firewall - otherwise you will be log out againįind out what dns/ip/port is sufficient to block for blocking updateįind out what dns/ip/port is sufficient to block for blocking automatic log outs If you have CrashPlan 4.4.1, you will be log out by Crashplan Set deny permission for SYSTEM in folder C:\Program Files\CrashPlan\upgradeĩ.Start Crashplan GUI - you should be logged in Restore backup of ProgramData folder via robocopy (previous backup of ProgramData folder is needed)Ĭheck if you have 4.8.4.15 version installed - if so, maybe backup ProgramData folder with robocopyĭownload and install CrashPlan_4.8.0_Win64.msi ( at own risk, but file is digitaly signed) Working workaround for CrashPlan blocking PS: I do not recommend this approach as reasonable, but just as a way to get more time. So I thing that people using CrashPlan locally are theoretically good to go after October 22 if they block CrashPlan access to internet and they do backup of "C:\ProgramData\CrashPlan" folder. (allow access to CrashPlan server was only required for initial setup) Only allowed IP is IP of remote computer. And for the last 3 years is backup go online over another CrashPlan computer. One of my CrashPlan is on computer with limited internet connectivity by firewall. I think this is interesting question, because CrashPlan client in capable working offline for years. Or they will force log out/ deauthorize to all clients, thus practically sabotaging all users? Will they only shut down their servers, so user will not be able to log in on new computers and start new backup to friends computers? This means that any data that you previously backed up using the free version will be inaccessible and you will not be able to back up or restore files, even to local folders or friends’ computers.īut how do you think they do it technically? This is a reminder that after October 22, 2018, the free version of CrashPlan for Home will no longer work. Hello, I'm using CrashPlan free on couple of computers (locally and p2p).Ĭrash/lan reminds us repeatedly in mails:
